The Town will begin using its new vote tabulating machine at the Annual Town Election. Click here to see a video of how the machine works is available. The tutorial is also showing on Shirley Public Access, Comcast channels 8, 9 and 99.
Voters will mark their ballots by filling in ovals next to candidates’ names, place the ballots in the tabulator, and the tabulator will provide the results at the end of the day after the polls close. There are spaces for write-in candidates also. It has simplified the election preparation process for the Clerk’s Office and will simplify tabulating the results as well. Training for election workers and a public testing of the machine will be held in April.
2015 Annual Town Census/Street Listing forms were mailed to households at the end of December. Please return your household form by the end of January for prompt processing. 2014 Town Census/Street Listing Nonrespondents
Voters who did not return their 2014 Annual Census were inactivated last June in accordance with state election laws. Letters with self-addressed, stamped return post cards were sent to provide voters an opportunity to reactivate their voter status. Please remember that Inactive voters need to show ID at the polls and fill out an affirmation form stating that they have continually resided in Shirley in order to receive a ballot.
