SHIRLEY FIRE DEPARTMENT
PERMIT FOR OPEN BURNING
Open burning Season is January 15
until May 1

All permits will be issued at the Shirley Fire Station.
All open burning must be seventy-five (75) feet from all structures.

The Fire Chief will determine if burning will be allowed for the day
Contact the Fire Station before 10:00 a.m. each day to check if burning is being allowed.
Burning must take place on the land closest to the source of material being burned.
All regulations are in accordance with the Department of Enviromental Protection Regulations (310 CMR DEP 7.07)
ALLOWED FOR PERMIT
Brush, cane, driftwood and forestry debris from other than commercial or industrial land clearing operations.
Materials normally associated with the pursuit of agriculture such as fruit tree pruning, dead raspberry stalks, blueberry patches and infected bee hives for disease control.
Trees and brush resulting from agricultural land clearing.
Fungus infected elm wood, if no other means of disposal is available.
Brush, trees, cane and driftwood from commercial and/or industrial land clearing operations.
Grass, hay, leaves, stumps and tires.
Construction material and debris.
An adult must always be present. Children and pets should be kept at a safe distance.
Use paper and kindling to start fire. Add progressively larger pieces of wood. Parts of left over Christmas trees may also be used.
