The Town of Shirley currently holds a Standard and Poor's municipal bond rating of 'A'. In February 2002, representatives from Standard and Poor's visited the Town and met with Finance Department staff to discuss the management and operations of the Town. In granting the upgrade in bond rating Standard and Poor's noted the Town's sound financial position, responsible budget management, healthy cash reserves, adequate capital planning, and astute management of the MCI mitigation funds.
