The Shirley Board of Health is a three member elected board and is also a member of the Nashoba Associated Boards of Health whose office is in Ayer, MA. The Nashoba Associated Boards of Health acts as our agent on many of the following duties:
- Health care and disease control
- enforcement of housing codes
- hazardous waste disposal/landfill monitoring
- Title V enforcement
- nuisance investigation
- food service establishments (enforcement of State Sanitary Code)
- safety and sanitation of pools and beaches.

Trash and Recycling
On July 2, 2009, the Town of Shirley implemented the new SMART Trash Program, with new schedules for rubbish pick up and curbside recycling. SMART stands for Save Money And Reduce Trash. SMART is a new way to think about trash collection, increasing recycling and reducing the impact of trash on the town budget. Official Town of Shirley SMART program trash bags will be required and are available in two sizes. Prices include the Smart program trash bag plus the disposal fee. Payments by check need to be made payable to Mansfield Paper.
13 gallon bags @ $7.50 for 10 bags
33 gallon bags @$15.00 for 10 bags

For those of you who have purchased stickers in advance or have stickers remaining, please continue using them with your own bags before purchasing the Smart program trash bags. Stickers can be applied to 33 gallon bags weighing no more than 40 lbs (approximately).
**Please note: Rubbish without a sticker or SMART trashbag and Recycling that is not properly prepared will not be picked up.
