DESK OFFICER/CLERK, Civilian Position

The Town of Shirley seeks a qualified individual to fill this full time, benefit-eligible Clerical Union position for the Police Department.  Minimum requirements:  Proven experience as front desk representative, or relevant position. Familiarity with office machines (e.g. fax, printer etc.). Knowledge of office management. Proficient in English (oral and written). Excellent knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel and Word). Strong communication and people skills. Good organizational and multi-tasking abilities. Problem-solving skills. Customer service orientation. High School diploma; additional qualifications will be a plus.  Candidates would need to complete and pass all phases of the selection process including interviews, extensive background investigation.  This position will serve as the primary face of the department to the public and outside agencies. The desk officer clerk will work normal business hours Monday to Friday to facilitate effective interface with the public as well as maintain critical data collection and updates to the various databases used. Position will require candidate to be the CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) Representative for the department and current CORI Certification to access confidential criminal history information. 911 Coordinator. Knowledge of IMC Databases and Police Software. Ability to access cameras, booking videos, and CCTV Equipment. Greet citizens and visitors in the lobby, handling police records request, solicitation permits, accidents forms, and taking any non-investigative, non-criminal information and forwarding the information to a police officer for further action. The Town of Shirley is seeking qualified applicants for a Full Time Laborer/ Truck Driver Position. The position pays $20.50 per hour based on experience.

Job responsibilities include operating trucks and attachments, general labor and limited mechanical work.  Assist in the snow and ice removal operations. Required to perform duties during off-duty hours including when called in for emergencies. All other related work as required.

High School Diploma or equivalent; plus at least 2 years prior experience with trucks in a construction and maintenance work capacity; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, or ability required. Must possess a valid Class B (CDL) license.  Ability to interact in a positive and effective manner with employees and the general public. Pre-employment physical, drug/alcohol screening both pre-hire and randomly, driver history checked upon hire.
