The Town of Shirley will be holding its Annual Town Election on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Town Offices to elect Town Officials. For those voters who do not wish to physically come into the Town Offices on the day of election to vote, we strongly encourage requesting an Absentee Ballot well in advance of the election date to ensure timely mailing of the ballot so it is received back in my office by 8:00 p.m. on the election day but time is running out quickly for this option. To apply for an absentee ballot, you must complete an Absentee Ballot Application (found at https://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/eleabsentee/absidx.htm) and mail it or drop it off at my office at Town Clerk, 7 Keady Way, Shirley, MA 01464 or e-mail it to me at [email protected] and I will mail you the ballot for you to complete and mail back to me. I can also send you an Absentee Ballot Application to you through the mail if you wish but, again, time is running out quickly for that.
If you choose to come into the Town Offices to vote on that day, please note that due to safety concerns regarding the Coronovirus and social distancing, we will be set up a little different than normal. Instead of coming in the front door of the Town Office building as we have the last 2-3 years, we will be asking voters to come in the side door of the Town Office building closest to the Library. We will have tape on the ground at six foot intervals for voters to social distance while waiting in line to vote. Please plan to wear a mask if at all possible for the safety of yourself and others in line and our Election Workers. We will have less voting booths available to social distance while voting so there may be some added delay in the process so please be patient. If rain is expected, please plan ahead since the majority of the waiting line will be outdoors. We will be asking everyone (except handicapped voters and those voters unable to walk well) to exit through the side door on the Police Station side of the Town Offices and walk around the building back to your cars on the other side of the building. We will have sanitizer available on your way into vote as well as on your way out from voting. We apologize for the inconvenience but to avoid voters exiting the building from passing voters in line coming into the building, this is the best option.
