Why is the previous owner's name showing on my real estate tax bill?
By law, the name of the property owner on January 1st must be shown on the tax bill for the entirety of the following fiscal year.
As a courtesy, when a new deed passes we will add the new owner's name in care of (c/o) to the second line of the bill.
Regardless of whose name appears on the bill, it is the responsibility of the current legal owner to ensure the timely payment of their Real Estate taxes weather or not they receive a tax bill.
